What an experience! I spent last weekend venturing far North in California to run in the Avenue of the Giants 1/2 Marathon just outside the small town of Weott. Upon arrival Saturday evening, I took a quick tour of the dark, rain-soaked, redwood-lined course. Kind of an ominous start to my weekend.
Sunday morning was totally different, however. I woke up to the sun peaking through the clouds–dampness quickly abating.
I had a great run, set a new personal record, and then proceeded to enjoy (yes, I said enjoy) my six-hour car ride home. Highway 299 between Arcata and Redding can’t be beat if you have a sports car and/or just plain enjoy 135 miles of S-curves, hills and spectacular views. Since my ride’s a Civic, I speak primarily for the latter.
